Synchronous Rotary Spark Gap

Legion Electronics Type-4 SRSG. 240V 50Hz 750VA sync motor, rated for use with Tesla coils up to 25kVA. Uses a 280mm rotor and 10mm solid tungsten electrodes. 200 breaks-per-second asymmetric pattern, but rotor could be re-drilled for other patterns.  Designed for use with a 10% boost starter but may be able to use a DOL starter depending on your local supply voltage. Has thermal safety switch and mounting for rotation-detect switch (not fitted). Must be installed in a suitable safety enclosure!

This unit was pulled from service owing to reaching it's hours-limit but seems to still be fully functional, supplied with a new set of tungstens fitted. Spare tungstens also available, see below. One of the insulating pillars is showing some surface tracking damage (pictured) but will probably last for tens or hundreds more hours before failure and is easily replaced.

Owing to weight shipping is likely to be slow and expensive so cash-on-collection is strongly recommended

High voltage Ceramic pass-through Insulator

Ceramic pass-through insulator rated for continual service at 132 KV and intermittent service up to 400 KV when clean. Has several chips (pictured) which means it would have to be thoroughly cleaned, dried and re-sealed before high voltage use. Yellow bar in the image is 1.2m long. A little dirty from storage but clean up to a shiny brown glazed surface with ordinary non-abrasive cleaners. Owing to weight, this item cannot be shipped, it is only available for collection from Bath or Reading, or delivery within 40 miles of those cities for an additional charge Heavy!

Linear Xenon Flash Tube

Xenon flash tube, 350mm Long, heavily used and has some debris inside the tube. We were told when we got it that it's rated for 1KJ per pulse but given it's age and heavy use we DO NOT recommend using it as a flash tube any more. When last used it still held xenon and would display a writhing plasma stream when energized by a Tesla coil.

Pulse Forming Network

Type PFN2-13/350X Pulse forming network. Believed to be a 4-stage Rayleigh Line PFN although this is not known for certain. Rated to deliver a 2.125 microsecond pulse into a 34 ohm load at up to 350 pulses per second when charged to 13Kv. If our assumptions about it's type and staging are correct it should contain 4 x 8nF high voltage pulse-rated capacitors and some inductors but we don't gaurentee this as we've not opened one up and can't find data-sheets for them! Oil filled and containing a couple of high voltage feed-throughs that may also be useful. Case style may vary slightly but all have the same insulated connections. Shipping may be possible on larger quantities but for individual units will be relatively expensive so collection or delivery within 40 miles of Bath/Reading is recommended.

Pulse Forming Network

Wego Type 9457 Pulse forming network. Believed to be a 4-stage Rayleigh Line PFN although this is not known for certain. Rated to deliver a 500 nanosecond pulse into a 34 ohm load at up to 1600 pulses per second when charged to 13Kv. Similar to the units above should contain capacitors and inductors but of different values reflecting the different rating. As with the above unit no promises though as we've not ever opened one up! Oil filled and containing a couple of high voltage feed-throughs that may also be useful. Case style and manufacturer may vary but all have the same insulated connections. Shipping may be possible on larger quantities but for individual units will be relatively expensive so collection or delivery within 40 miles of Bath/Reading is recommended. 10Kg/ea

Unknown Pulse Transformer / Filament isolation transformer - Southern Transformer Products LTD part STP 8858

This is labelled on the carrying plate as a pulse transformer but the winding arrangement suggests it might be suitable for a filament isolation transformer for high power valve applications. We don't really know for sure what this is or what it was for, no-one here can remember where we got them so it's up to you to find a use for them! Owing to high weight and low price shipping is unlikely to be practical.

5.5Kv 120mA Transformer

5.5Kv 120mA transformers, NOT neon sign type so will require external ballasting for Tesla coil use. Primary side is tapped for 190-260Vac in 10V steps, 45-55Hz and has a screen option. Transformers are partially or fully resin potted so any sort of modification to the windings is likely to be impractical. Manufacturer, colour and potting style varies but all have the same ratings.
